Daruma Doll (達磨)

This entry has nothing to do with photography but I still want to share this with those who don't know what a Daruma doll is, since I brought back a couple of them from Japan.

A Daruma doll is a hollow, round, Japanese traditional doll modeled after Bodhidharma, the founder of the Zen sect of Buddhism. Daruma dolls are seen as a symbol of perseverance and good luck, making them a popular gift of encouragement.

The eyes of Daruma are blank when sold. The recipient of the doll fills in one eye upon setting a goal, then the other upon fulfilling it. In this way, every time they see the one-eyed Daruma, they recall the goal.

All I have to do now is coming up with something I want to achieve and paint in the first eye.
